Craft and Structure- Grade 1
4.) Identify words and phrases in stories or poems that suggest feelings or appeal to the senses.

How it Connects: Students can discuss what emotions each of the characters portray, and find which phrases show the reader the emotions of the characters.

Tier 3 Vocabulary
constantly, offer, report

Classroom Usage
Centers: Students can split up into four groups (more or less depending on how many students there are) and write about the different animals they saw in the book, and discuss

Differentiation
This story would be good for ELL, dyslexic, and gifted students because it is a story everyone can connect to. Everyone has gotten their feelings hurt by someone in their life, so it is a good way for anyone to connect. It is also an easier read that would be good to work on comprehension.
