A Fairy Different Life

Annotation
A young girl looks at her classmates in judgement until a fairy comes along and turns her world upside down.

Craft and Structure- Kindergarten
5.) Recognize common types of texts (e.g., storybooks, poems)

How it Connects: Teacher can show students similarities and differences between poems and other genres of books. Help the students be able to tell the difference. The teacher can also go over stanzas and the format of poems.

Craft and Structure- Grade 1
4.) Identify words and phrases in stories or poems that suggest feelings or appeal to the senses.

How it Connects: Students can talk about the feelings of the young girl in the classroom, how her classmates feel, and how the fairy makes her feel.

Classroom Usage
Small Groups: Students can take turns reading the story. At the end of the story they can create their own fairy, and make up characteristics of the fairies they create.

Differentiation
This story would be good for ELL/gifted students because it is an easier read and it opens up their vocabulary to different words, different emotions, and is a good book to work on comprehension
