Annotation
Rubina has been invited to her first birthday party. Her mother, Ami, tells her she cannot go unless she brings her little sister, Sana along. Rubina does not want to take her sister. Both girls end up going. Not only does Sana demand to win every game, but after the party she steals Rubina's prized party favor, a red lollipop.

How it Connects: The story will help students work on comprehension with new vocabulary words.

Key Ideas and Details- Grade 3
3.) Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

How it Connects: The students will be able to talk about each of the characters traits. They can also discuss how they think Rubina feels when she has to take Sana to her friends birthday party with her, and how she feels when she steals her red lollipop. They can also talk about how Sana feels when she knows Rubina doesn't want her to go to the party.

Classroom Usage
Independent Reading: Read silently and highlight any words they do not know. After, write about how they would feel if they were in Rubina's position.

Differentiation
This story would be good for all types of learners to work on comprehension. It also teaches a lesson on sharing and being kind.
